Back in Turkish times, the Trappists laid the foundations of industry in Banjaluka and continued to develop it further during the Austro-Hungarian period. Upon their arrival to Delibašino village and after they had built the church and Marija Zvijezda Priory, the Trappists started constructing a mill on the river Vrbas in the autumn of 1871. Following this, they built a brickyard, plum drying shed, brewery, saw-mill, weaving mill and other production facilities. They developed the production of famous cheese, called Trappist cheese, and built a hydro-electric power plant on the river Vrbas, as well as a granary, ice-factory, steam-powered mill and many other facilities.<< back |
